Why Musanze

Why Rent a Car in Musanze?

Gorilla Trekking Base

Volcanoes National Park headquarters is only 13 km from Musanze town centre. Gorilla trekking briefings start at 07:00 at Kinigi, and having your own vehicle means you control the schedule instead of waiting for a shuttle.

Golden Monkey Tracking

The endangered golden monkey lives only in the bamboo forests of the Virungas. Tracking permits cost $100 and the trailhead is a short drive from Musanze -- a car lets you combine both activities in a single day.

Volcano Hiking

Mount Bisoke (3,711 m) and Mount Karisimbi (4,507 m) depart from Volcanoes NP. A rental car gives you the flexibility to arrive the evening before and rest after the climb without transport stress.

Absolutely. Rwanda drives on the right, road signs are clear, and the RN4 highway is well-maintained. Google Maps works reliably for navigation. The only challenge for newcomers is the narrow, winding sections through the hills north of Gakenke -- take it slow and enjoy the views. If you would rather not drive, we offer cars with experienced local drivers.
