The Royal Seat of Rwanda
The Nyanza King's Palace is a stunning reconstruction of the traditional royal home, crowned by a distinctive beehive-shaped thatched roof. For centuries, Nyanza served as Rwanda's historical centre, with the monarchy eventually establishing a permanent capital that housed over 2,000 inhabitants in traditional huts.
The palace grounds are home to a herd of long-horned Inyambo cattle — direct descendants of the original royal livestock. These magnificent ceremonial cattle were historically adorned with jewellery and trained to perform in royal processions, their lineage tracing back to ancient Ankole cattle.
